I’m aware this is a bit late but I don’t think it is ever too late to discuss this. It is so important that mental health is discussed in a safe and loving environment to help and educate people.
I personally feel as though over the last few years the understanding has got greater, however, there is still so much more to do. The problem I believe stems from the lack of knowledge. People seem to have more time for physical injuries that can be seen and maybe they are scared of the mind, something they can’t see.
I have definitely struggled with mental health over the last couple of years but also have met so many people who are going through something similar. I don’t know if this generation is struggling more than any other or just that there is more help out there for people.
There is still more we can do. Charities like MIND are great in stepping up the game in terms of spreading awareness.
I think the most important thing is that everyone becomes more aware of people around you. If someone is acting in a certain way or appears to be sad, angry or not right in some way they don’t assume they are annoying or rude or aggressive or whatever. Just think and be sensitive and don’t judge.
I also just want to say that if you are struggling right now just know that you’re not the only one. And somewhere there is someone for you to talk to whether that is your parents, a friend, a teacher or a doctor. Someone is always there even when you feel alone and in the dark. It’s okay. I promise.
Keep smiling and be proactive in your own personal journey.
